Eye on Haiti Campaign - Haiti Earthquake

The scale of this disaster will affect millions, with reports putting the death toll at around 200,000.

 

Haiti is one of the poorest nations in the world with insufficient infrastructure to cope with such a devastating event. It is therefore a responsibility for the rest of the world to come together and provide the necessary aid that cannot be provided from within.

The scale of media coverage surrounding this event has been phenomenal. It has seen a huge rise in the importance of new media technologies in covering the story. CNNs iReport application, which gave people the opportunity to see what was happening, received 1.4million page views on the 13^th of January less than a day after it occurred. This huge level of interest is testament to the importance of the App industry in today’ society. Websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Youtube have also all played an important role in bringing people closer together in support.
